Kabir Singh: Shahid Kapoor Laments, "No One Picked On Sanju When The Guy Reveals He Slept With 300 Girls"
Recently, while speaking to a leading daily, Shahid Kapoor spoke about the controversy surrounding Kabir Singh and cited Ranbir Kapoor's Sanju as an example
Though Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani starrer Kabir Singh went on to become a stunner of 2019 films of Bollywood, it still came with a lot of criticisms from a certain section of the society, courtsey: promotion of misogyny and toxic masculinity in the film.
After weeks of silence, Shahid Kapoor, who plays the lead role in Kabir Singh opened up about his character to Bollywood Hungama, saying "If Kabir hadn't slapped Preeti, would everything else that he did be okay? Because he slapped the girl, you feel that is unacceptable and that Kabir Singh is an unacceptable character. We want you to feel this is unacceptable, his behaviour has gone beyond control. Kabir Singh is the guy who the film is about and he is the guy who's the problem.”
However, in a recent chat with a leading portal, Shahid expressed his happiness on the success of the film and also spoke about the criticism by citing the example of a scene from Ranbir Kapoor's Sanju. The actor said, “There have been films in the recent past which had characters exhibiting similar traits but then no one really picked on them. To be candid, Sanju had a scene where the guy sitting in front of his wife and saying he has slept with 300 women. No one picked on it the way they went after Kabir Singh. And this is not to say that I didn’t enjoy Sanju. I thoroughly did, because I didn’t watch it to see how people should be, I watched it to see how the character’s life is. The fact that people loved Kabir Singh has just told me that people watch a film for what it is.”
Meanwhile, just like its original Arjun Reddy had a path-breaking run, the remake too had an equally positive impact on the audience. Filmmaker Sandeep Reddy Vanga's directorial is now inching closer to the 300 cr mark.
